The Nutcracker will feature 100 young local dancers at Lighthouse Poole this November.
English Youth Ballet is bringing the production to the venue on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 November, with international principal dancers leading the cast and selected young performers from the local area.
The story follows Clara, who receives a nutcracker doll for Christmas before dreaming that it becomes a prince, and the pair then face the seven headed Mouse King before travelling through the Snow Forest.
Director Janet Lewis has created the adaptation with a team of international principal artists, who also coach the young dancers, while the choreography is adapted from the original by Marius Petipa.
The cast will rehearse for 60 hours, and more than 30 chaperones are needed at Lighthouse, where the production will use about 250 costumes and several types of ballet shoes.
Reviews quoted by the company have referred to “Talented young dancers”, while Dance Europe described English Youth Ballet as “a triumph” and Eastern Daily Press said the show ran “from start to finish”.
