A public consultation has opened on BCP Council’s draft Home to School Travel Support policies, which cover children of compulsory school age and learners aged 16 and over who may need help getting to school or college.
The proposals include clearer information about eligibility, travel options and decisions, along with Independent Travel Training for some children and young people and wider use of Personal Travel Budgets for learners aged 16 and over where appropriate.
Juliette Blake, Interim Corporate Director of Children's Services, said views from families, schools and colleges are “really important” before decisions are made, and said a separate survey has been created for children and young people.
Councillor Richard Burton said getting to school or college is “about much more than transport”, while recognising that many children and young people will continue to need specialist transport and extra support.
People can respond online, use the children and young people's survey, join an online session, request a paper survey, or attend drop in events in Bournemouth, Creekmoor and Christchurch before Wednesday seven October.
