A consultation has opened on plans for new specialist SEND school places in Bournemouth.
Families, residents, schools and staff are being asked for views on proposals to create up to 240 places for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities at the former Parkfield School site.
BCP Council is working with Linwood School on the proposed Riverwood Campus, which would operate as part of Linwood School and help meet demand for SEND places across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
If approved, the campus would educate pupils aged seven to 19 and include up to 180 additional specialist places, so more children and young people could receive support closer to home.
Richard Burton, portfolio holder for children, young people, education and skills at BCP Council, said the aim was “the right support” in “the right place”, and added: “No decision has been made.”
The former Parkfield School site would be adapted with specialist teaching spaces, therapy and wellbeing areas, and facilities that would support life and employment skills if the plan is approved.
The consultation opened today and closes on the third of December, and feedback from families, staff, residents, schools and other stakeholders will be considered before a final decision is taken.
