A youth club will reopen at The Grove in Upton this autumn for local young people.
YMCA Bournemouth will deliver the service in partnership with Lytchett Minster and Upton Town Council, which has committed £25,000 annually for its first 2 years, while another £4,500 will provide equipment.
The reopening follows consultation with nearly 800 students at Lytchett Minster School, who showed strong support for a local place where young people could meet friends, relax and spend time together.
YMCA Bournemouth will draw on its experience at Townsend Youth Centre and The Chatterboxes, its project supporting young people with disabilities and additional needs to develop confidence, friendships and independence.
Chief executive Rev Dr Gareth Sherwood said the council had “listened to young people” and created the opportunity for The Grove to reopen, adding that youth clubs “matter”.
Mayor Councillor Ray Griffin said youth provision had been a major council priority and described the new service as a “free youth club” for the town.
The Grove will hold 2 sessions on Friday evenings for different age groups. Anyone seeking further information or wishing to volunteer can email community@lytchettminsterandupton-tc.gov.uk.
