Plans have been lodged for Superdrug to return to Bournemouth town centre in Commercial Road.

An advertising application has been submitted for new shopfront signage and LED window lighting at 56 to 58 Commercial Road, where the unit is currently trading as River Island in the town centre.

The proposal follows earlier reports that River Island had placed posters thanking Dorset customers ahead of an expected closure on September 16, with this application focused on signs and window illumination.

Martin Davies, chair of Bournemouth Town Centre BID and managing director of Rawlins Davy Reeves, said the BID understood Superdrug's previous departure was "not of their choosing" and that the retailer had been "actively looking to return".

He added that, while River Island's departure was unfortunate, the planned Superdrug return was a "statement of belief" in the town centre during challenging trading conditions for retailers and local businesses.

The application is open for consultation until September 17 and has been submitted under planning application number P/26/04144/ADV, with residents able to comment through the planning process before a decision is made.
