Christchurch’s Summer Sounds programme has ended with a big band concert on the quay.
Swing Unlimited Community Big Band performed on the bandstand at Christchurch Quay after a planned opening show for the season on 3 June was postponed because of a thunderstorm that evening.
People brought picnic blankets, folding chairs and dogs as the band played saxophones, trombones, brass, percussion and vocals across the Quomps, with some in the crowd singing along and recording parts of the concert on their phones.
The evening also formed part of Town Mayor Maggie Fidler’s civic events, with raffle tickets and small gifts sold for Diverse Abilities’ Treehouse location and Christchurch Scouts who were chosen to join the Dorset Duckaneers for the International Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027.
Mayor Maggie Fidler said she was “not singing this evening” before telling the crowd it was “all in the mindset”, and she later thanked Swing Unlimited as more than £150 was raised for the 2 causes.
