Fallen trees have blocked roads and footpaths across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole following two weekend storms.

Storms Austen and Boelo brought down several large trees in Bournemouth's Lower Gardens, leaving numerous paths blocked, while elsewhere across the area, falling trees damaged vehicles and forced road closures throughout Saturday and Sunday.

In Charminster, a red Vauxhall Corsa was crushed by a falling tree over the weekend, while a man from Poole was sitting in his BMW at traffic lights in Swanage when another tree fell onto part of his vehicle.

A tree partially blocked a road in Canford Magna, Whitelegg Way, and Beechey Road was totally blocked near the current roadworks next to Nuffield Hospital in Bournemouth on Saturday.

Chapel Lane in Burley was blocked for several hours on Saturday, and Bingham Avenue in Poole was closed on Sunday morning while a fallen tree was cut into sections and removed from the road.

Local resident Mark told Bournemouth One: "I heard a massive bang and wondered what it was," before discovering a large tree covering the road, which he believed could have been hundreds of years old.

A tree also blocked the train line between Weymouth and Brockenhurst causing cancellations and delays on the trains on Friday.

Both storms had passed by Sunday afternoon, with sunshine returning to the area, although further heavy rain is expected on Monday morning before conditions become cloudy but dry later in the day.

Sunshine is forecast for the remainder of next week, with no further storms currently expected. The Met Office has confirmed that the next named storm will be Storm Chloe.
