Councillors will discuss a SEND reform plan covering three years in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
BCP Council submitted the Local SEND Reform Plan to government on 19 June. It sets out how education, health and care partners would change support for children and young people across the area.
The plan is being assessed nationally, with a decision expected from the Secretary of State for Education this month. Councillors will discuss it through the council’s democratic process while that assessment continues.
It has been shaped with children and young people, parents, carers, schools and practitioners. The plan says children and young people with SEND in BCP should feel they belong, are listened to and can thrive.
Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for children and young people, said families and practitioners had helped shape it “from the beginning”. He said the council remained committed to “keeping people informed” as the programme progresses.
The plan follows a recent Ofsted and Care Quality Commission inspection, which recognised positive progress in BCP since 2021. It will be considered by the Children’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 14 September.
