The vessel will travel to Poole Quay on Monday 2 November, with refit work taking place there and in Falmouth, subject to weather and sea conditions during the planned 7 week period.
General Manager Wayne Row said the refits were “essential” for the ferry to continue operating safely and reliably, with more complex work focusing on long term structural integrity and regulatory compliance.
He said parts are ordered at least a year in advance, while sections and systems are prepared beforehand to help reduce the amount of time the ferry needs to remain out of service.
The Sandbanks Ferry alternates between minor and major refits every 2 years, with its previous major refit taking place in 2022.
The exact date for its return to service will be announced in December 2026.
