Rural crime patrols, security checks and work across borders took place across Dorset as police and partners focused on offences affecting farms, yards and rural businesses. Rural crime patrols and security visits have taken place across Dorset after a national action week.
During National Rural Crime Week of Action, officers recovered stolen plant machinery parts in East Dorset, where the parts belonged to a company carrying out work in local rural communities.
Intelligence was also shared with the Wincanton Neighbourhood Policing Team, which led to the quick recovery of a stolen motorbike, while Dorset Police joined Operation Ragwort with forces from Avon and Somerset, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Thames Valley.
The operation focused on hotspot patrols, offenders linked to rural crime and contact with rural communities, while officers also visited equestrian yards to check tack and yard security and identify weaknesses which thieves could exploit.
Dorset Police and partners work through the Dorset Partnership Against Rural Crime throughout the year, sharing intelligence and responding to issues raised by people who live and work in the countryside.
One farmer involved in Dorset PARC said rural communities work closely with the Rural Crime Team to understand criminal activity, adding: “together we can act quickly” to identify and report offences.
