AFC Bournemouth begin their Premier League season at Manchester City under new head coach Marco Rose.
Rose, who replaced Andoni Iraola in the summer, will take charge of his first top flight match at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, where the Cherries are seeking their first points at the venue.
The German coach said the fixture was “exciting” and added: “If we’ve never won there, maybe it’s time we did.” He said Bournemouth knew the size of the task against an experienced City squad.
Rose said he had watched 3 of City’s pre season friendlies and expected an intense approach from Enzo Maresca’s side, with Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovačić among the players noted.
He said Bournemouth had worked well through pre season, despite injuries, and felt prepared for the opening game. Rose added that he does not want to set a league position target, preferring to focus on performance.
He said the team wants to keep its identity, play on the front foot and “compete with every opponent”, starting with a tough away game at the Etihad this weekend.
