Bournemouth rail passengers are set to get more seats on CrossCountry services from 2027.

CrossCountry is adding eight additional Voyager trains to its network, which it says will create 60,000 extra seats each week and support routes linking Bournemouth with major cities across the UK.

The first added train is expected to enter service in early 2027, with all eight due to be operating by May 2028 through an agreement involving the Department for Transport, Beacon and Arriva.

Tom Hayes, MP for Bournemouth East, said the announcement was “welcome news for Bournemouth” and for people who rely on the services, adding that he had called for “more seats” to ease overcrowding.

He said a faster, “more reliable” and more affordable railway was needed, and said new lifts at Pokesdown Station would “help enormously” in improving accessibility for local passengers using the station.

He said he would keep pressing for the transport links that Bournemouth needs, as the town prepares for extra capacity on CrossCountry services across the network over the next two years.
