Priory Car Park in Christchurch will return to church management at the end of November.
Management of the site will pass back to the Parochial Church Council of Christchurch on 28 November 2026, when Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council’s lease of the car park comes to an end.
The car park is expected to stay open to the public, but it will leave the BCP Council parking network, so council permits, season tickets, tariffs and parking arrangements will no longer apply there.
Drivers using the car park after the transfer are being asked to check site signs, because the new operator will be responsible for the tariffs, terms and conditions that apply there.
Councillor Richard Herrett, BCP Council’s portfolio holder responsible for parking, said the site had been an “important facility” and said the council would work with the PCC of Christchurch on a “smooth transition”.
Priory Car Park will be removed from the council’s website, parking systems and payment platforms before the transfer, and season ticket and permit holders will be contacted directly about alternative BCP Council car parks.
