Jo Clements, who represented the ward on Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council for the Liberal Democrats, has stepped down because of personal circumstances after serving there as a ward councillor.
The council has not yet confirmed when the vote will be held, but said arrangements will be made in due course for people in Penn Hill to choose a new representative.
A BCP Council spokesperson confirmed the resignation and said a local election would be held for the Penn Hill seat, with “further details” about the process to be announced later.
Councillor Millie Earl, leader of the council, thanked Councillor Clements for her work and said she had given “many years of dedicated service” to residents while serving as a ward councillor.
She also pointed to Councillor Clements’ work as Vice Chair of Western Planning Committee and said the decision had been made in “challenging personal circumstances”, and the council has wished her and her family well for the future.
