A Poole infant school wants a new music building after its former classroom became a SEND base.
Canford Heath Infant School has applied for permission to install a small modular building at the school for visiting peripatetic music teachers, who would use it for individual and small group lessons.
Planning documents say the previous specialist music room was converted into an inclusion base because more pupils need special educational needs and disabilities support within Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
The change means weekly music classes have moved into ordinary classrooms, while instruments and teaching aids are carried between rooms on trolleys because the school is already operating at full capacity.
The school says the new building would provide two dedicated teaching rooms and secure storage for instruments and equipment without changing current pupil or staff numbers, if planning permission is granted.
The application says the Trust is “hugely proud” of pupils’ musical achievements and sees music as part of every child’s academic journey, with a consultation on the plan due to run until October one.
