The work will add trees around the freshwater lake, create waterside gardens with planting for pollinators, and install a bench with a wildlife theme and sensory play features that are inspired by local nature.
Accessibility will also be improved through upgraded crossing points, shallower ramps and smoother surfaces, while the route between Whitecliff Gate and Middle Gate will be resurfaced for people walking, wheeling and cycling.
Councillor Andy Hadley, BCP Council’s portfolio holder for parks, said the plans would create “even more opportunities” for local communities to enjoy nature, spend time outdoors and experience the park’s surroundings.
He said the park would remain accessible by car, public transport, on foot and by bike, with no change to parking provision, while its role as “a community green space” is strengthened.
Work is scheduled to begin in early October and will be delivered by BCP Council’s Parks team, using funding which has come from an external grant for the improvement scheme.
