The vote has been called after Councillor Jo Clements stepped down from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council for personal reasons, leaving a vacancy in the Penn Hill ward where local voters will choose a new councillor.
People who live in the ward must be over 18 and registered to vote by Tuesday 20 October if they are not already on the electoral roll, BCP Council says polling cards are expected to arrive around Friday 2 October.
Anyone who wants a postal vote must apply by 5pm on Wednesday 21 October, while proxy vote applications need to be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday 28 October ahead of election day.
The names of expected candidates are due to be announced after 4pm on Friday 9 October, and the result is expected to be announced on Friday 6 November once votes have been counted.
