A burglar has been jailed after CCTV enquiries connected him to offences in Poole and Lytchett Minster.
Justin Chappell, 43 and of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 40 months in prison after admitting two burglaries and theft. He also asked for three further burglaries and three thefts to be taken into consideration.
Chappell forced entry to the Esso petrol station in Blandford Road, Poole, in the early hours of Saturday 11 July 2026. He left the premises with a cashbox.
On Wednesday 22 July 2026, a resident in Lytchett Minster saw a man standing in her kitchen by the back door and screamed, which caused him to run away.
CCTV from the home showed the man trying vehicle handles, entering one vehicle and stealing a pair of sunglasses. Police said Chappell was identified through CCTV enquiries linked to both burglaries and was then arrested.
At Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 18 September 2026, Chappell made further admissions to offences committed in Poole between December 2025 and July 2026.
Police Constable Kelly Stronach, of Dorset Police’s Neighbourhood Crime Team, said officers recognise the “impact burglaries have” on businesses and residents and will “thoroughly investigate” reports of this kind.
