Adults and older young people can explore art during a three day creative event in Poole later this month.
Create with Katie: Pop Up will take place at Gather in the Dolphin Centre from Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 September, combining 6 practical workshops with a drop in Open Studio for independent creative work.
The programme covers watercolour, botanical lino printing, collage, acrylic painting, ink and bleach mandalas, and zine making, with local zine makers Robyn and Amy from Zine Cuisine joining Katie Munro’s sessions.
Katie, a Poole based artist and illustrator with more than 13 years’ experience teaching Art and Photography, said people should be able to “experiment without the pressure” of getting everything right.
She recently completed a Master’s degree in Illustration and now develops her own art, illustration and workshop programme, while delivering accessible group sessions for adults and older young people across Poole, Bournemouth and Dorset.
The Open Studio requires no booking or previous experience, and visitors can try materials including collage, watercolour, ink, pastels and acrylic paint, with artists available to offer guidance when needed.
Workshop programme:
Wednesday 23 September
12–2pm — Watercolour Techniques: Creatures of the Sea and Sky: Be guided through a range of different watercolour painting techniques to create expressive and lively beasts!
6–8pm — Botanical Lino Printing: Explore shapes and patterns found in nature and learn the basics of lino printing to create your own botanical design.
Thursday 24 September
2–4pm — Collage Landscapes: Create a beautiful landscape using vibrant, cut out paper inspired by your favourite place and enriched with imagination!
6–8pm — Acrylic Inspirations: In this painting workshop you will choose from a selection of artworks and create your own imaginative outcome!
Friday 25 September
10am–12pm — Ink and Bleach Mandalas: Create stunning psychedelic mandala patterns using ink and bleach!
3–6pm — Zine Cuisine: Join Robyn and Amy as they guide you through making your own zine!
