Pond maintenance at Queen’s Park has been paused again because BCP Council has frozen maintenance spending.
The dredging has now been cancelled for a second year, despite funding from the Queen’s Park and Charminster Neighbourhood Forum and Bournemouth Water, because the council says related digger operations are also on hold.
Councillor Alasdair Keddie said he visits the pond with his family and knows it is important to residents, adding that it “urgently needs proper maintenance” after spending controls had “stalled even straightforward projects”.
Councillor Sharon Carr Brown said the news was “incredibly disappointing” and “hard to justify”, because money had been raised and a commitment made, and she offered to help if the council allowed supervised community led work.
Deputy leader and finance portfolio holder Councillor Mike Cox said the council understands residents’ frustration, and that the scheme has been paused while future options, including external funding or alternative approaches, are explored.
