Dorset Police received a report at 12.58pm on Wednesday of a crash between Canford Bottom Roundabout and Merely Roundabout involving a grey Fiat Ducato van, a white Scania tipper truck and a black Volkswagen Passat.
The Fiat Ducato was reported to be on fire, and officers attended with the ambulance and fire services before a road closure was put in place and two occupants of the van were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Searches were carried out for the driver of the Volkswagen Passat, who had left the scene, but he was not located, and police have issued an image of a man they would like to identify as part of their enquiries.
Police Constable Chandler Organ, of the Roads Policing Team, said officers were carrying out a “detailed investigation” and asked witnesses who had not spoken to police, along with motorists who may have dashcam footage, to “please get in touch”.
