Dorset Police said the crash happened at around 11.50pm on Sunday and involved a red Citroen C1, and emergency services attended before officers confirmed the driver had died at the scene and his family had been informed.
Road closures were put in place while crews responded and an examination of the scene was carried out, and officers are now asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area to come forward.
Sergeant Leanne Howes, of the Roads Policing Team, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones" of the man, while a "detailed investigation" continues into the full circumstances of what happened.
Police also want to hear from motorists who were nearby at the time and may have footage, especially if they have not already spoken to officers during the early stages of the investigation.
