Dorset Police said it objected because the area has a history of alcohol linked crime and antisocial behaviour, and officers believe combining boxing with alcohol sales could affect public safety when attendees leave the premises.
The force has asked for clearer wording on the management plan, including whether the proposed cap of “499 persons or venue capacity” includes staff and security, and has also requested a layout showing the boxing ring location.
The notice would allow the event to go ahead if the licensing panel approves it, with the application due to be heard at a BCP Council licensing meeting on Wednesday, September 9.
