Bournemouth Electric Club wants to replace its grass pitch at Broadway Lane with an artificial surface, external lighting, perimeter fencing and a run off area, on a playing field which has homes on three sides. The clubhouse and car park adjoin Broadway Lane, and the application drew 77 letters of objection from residents alongside 149 representations of support from people backing the football scheme locally.
Objectors said 15 metre floodlight columns would bring “visual intrusion”, light spill, more evening noise and parking pressure on pavements and verges because homes are close to the pitch. Supporters said an all weather surface and LED lighting would reduce weather related cancellations, support youth and girls’ football, and provide a permanent venue for training through the year.
Planning officers recommended refusal, saying the 15 metre columns would harm neighbouring homes and the application had not provided adequate flood risk and drainage details ahead of a planning meeting on October 27, when the proposal was due to be decided.
