Bournemouth Pier will receive five million pounds for the removal of its deteriorating timber landing stages, and BCP Council says work to take them away is due to begin this month.
Councillor Sara Armstrong said she backed essential safety work, but she called the funding shift concerning and said residents “deserve guarantees that work will actually begin” after years of delay.
Councillor Millie Earl, leader of BCP Council, said the proposal “was in no way hidden” and had been published for public review, with the decision intended to “protect public safety” and stabilise sections of cliff that are considered high risk.
