Community groups across Christchurch are sharing £11,203.83 to support young people, families and local activities.

The latest Community Grants awards from Christchurch Town Council will help Scout, Guide and Brownie groups improve facilities and equipment, while Friends of Priory School will replace its play trail and include a memorial to 2 pupils who died earlier this year.

Support is also going to Home-Start Wessex, Christchurch Support Kabin and Christchurch Community Partnership, which work with families, older people and residents experiencing hardship or isolation, with the partnership's projects expected to reach more than 1,000 people.

Christchurch Harbour Watch will receive funding to continue sharing safety information, while improvements at Mudeford Guide Hall and new equipment for the Somerford Scout Group will benefit other groups using those facilities and resources.

Christchurch Carnival will receive support for its free annual event, which reaches around 5,000 residents, and Milton Musical Society will be helped with its next production, including a performance interpreted in British Sign Language.

Mayor of Christchurch, Councillor Maggie Fidler, said the grants would help young people develop "confidence and skills", improve community facilities and provide support for those facing hardship, adding that she looks forward to meeting the organisations involved.

The Community & Engagement Committee approved grants as follows:

£298.98 to 1st Mudeford Guides: To purchase a Coleman Event Shelter for use at Fundraising events and camping trips.
