The upgrade has been shaped by ideas from children, young people and families, whose feedback focused on adventure play, with climbing equipment, swings, a zip wire, junior and toddler play units, and a large rope swing included in the plans.
The fenced site will be arranged into four zones for toddlers, children and teenagers, including a sensory area, while new picnic tables and social seating will also be installed for families using the space.
Community involvement has continued through the design process as BCP Council green spaces staff worked with Kompan, Townsend Youth Club and MBN Arts on features for the play area, including signs and painted stones created by young people.
Councillor Sandra Moore, BCP Council's portfolio holder for Play Strategy, said working with the community had helped create a play area that "properly reflects the wants and needs of children and young people".
The scheme is part of BCP Council's Plan for Play strategy, which is bringing refurbishments, repairs and new equipment to more than 100 sites across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, including priority work at Mallard Road, King's Park and Hamworthy.
