Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council is advertising for a Socio Educational Knife Crime Deterrence Worker, funded by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, on a 12 month contract that could be extended.
The successful applicant will work mainly in schools, supporting children and young people who are considered more likely to carry or use knives, experience exploitation, or become involved in serious violence.
The council says the post will use 'relationship based intervention work' and practical activities to challenge attitudes linked to violence and weapon carrying, while helping young people to 'make safer and more positive choices'.
Group sessions would cover knife carrying, weapon related harm, peer pressure, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, criminal exploitation and online influences, with wider support also pointing towards education, training, volunteering, sport, arts and community engagement.
The deadline for applications is September 27, and interviews are scheduled for October 5 and 6, when shortlisted candidates will discuss the newly created post, which is focused on timely local intervention.
