A free postcode website is helping people in BCP and Dorset find nearby local updates.
Community Connect brings together information on events, volunteering roles, green spaces, roadworks, planning applications and public consultations, with searches available by entering a postcode and no registration needed for people across Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and Dorset.
Resident Jo Keeling created the platform after previously collaborating with Bournemouth University on CommUNIty, which was designed to share university knowledge through talks and learning sessions, and Jo said people are often “looking further afield” when there may be useful activities near home.
Information is arranged across seven strands, including nature and environment, place and development, health and wellbeing, and learning and skills, using data from public sources such as BCP Council, HM Land Registry, the Environment Agency, the Department for Transport and police records.
Charities, cultural venues, voluntary groups and individuals can add local events and notices without charge, while Community Connect Life CIC operates the service and seeks funding for community initiatives across Dorset.
Jo, who developed the site with her brother Michael, said the resource could help someone “discover a new interest” or support a local charity while feeling more connected to where they live.
