A new road safety campaign called One Decision has been launched by Dorset’s Police and Crime Commissioner to highlight how everyday actions can reduce the risk of serious harm on local roads.
The campaign is built around the message that every journey is shaped by decisions made by road users. David Sidwick said people should “make the right decisions” when driving, including slowing down, putting phones away and wearing seatbelts.
He said many collisions are avoidable, although not all can be prevented. He added that people should get a lift or use public transport after drinking, or after taking illegal drugs or medication that may affect safe driving.
The Government’s 2026 Road Safety Strategy says around nine in 10 collisions have human driver error as a contributory factor. The Dorset campaign will focus on positive choices that drivers can take before and during journeys.
It is being run with Dorset Police’s Road Safety Team and will be shared across the Police and Crime Commissioner’s social media channels. Each week will focus on a different road safety decision.
Laressa Robinson, Education and Collision Data Operations Manager, said road safety is “everyone’s responsibility” and urged people to look for hazards when travelling in Dorset.
