A new toucan crossing is now operating at a busy Bournemouth junction after safety concerns.
The crossing has been installed on Richmond Park Road, where it meets Springbourne Roundabout, following long running calls from residents who wanted a safer way for pedestrians and cyclists to get across the road.
It will support people walking or cycling to local schools, the BH Live Active gym, Queen’s Park greenspace and the football ground, with Councillor Alasdair Keddie saying it "went live this afternoon" after weeks of work.
He thanked residents for their patience during the works and said local families would now be able to reach schools, the gym and Queen’s Park safely, adding: "I felt a lot safer".
Another ward councillor said she was "really pleased" to see the crossing finished, because it was needed for school children and followed a report she commissioned around 3 years ago to assess the need.
Residents were asked for their views during a formal consultation, which ran from May 1 to May 22 before the crossing was completed and brought into use at the junction.
