Louise Balaam has been appointed Chief Executive of Dorset Community Foundation, bringing 20 years of experience.

The foundation supports voluntary groups, charities and individuals across Dorset, awarding more than £1.3 million in grants last year and more than £23 million since it was formed in 2000.

Louise previously spent 11 years at The Youth Adventure Trust in Wiltshire as Director of Fundraising and Engagement, and has also worked with The National Arboretum at Westonbirt, ChildLine and the NSPCC.

She said she believes in “the power of philanthropy” and wants to play a part in addressing challenges across Dorset, with her first priority being to meet stakeholders, partners and voluntary sector leaders around the county.

Louise, who lives near Dorchester, said the role is “an opportunity to be a positive part of Dorset’s future”, while DCF Chairman Tom Flood CBE said her experience, leadership skills and commitment to communities stood out during the appointment process.
