A new 20mph limit has been approved for 14 roads in Poole to support safer journeys.
The change covers a corridor between Alder Road and Coy Pond, which BCP Council says is intended to make walking and cycling towards Bournemouth town centre safer and more accessible.
The route is part of the council’s Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan, and follows earlier improvements through Bournemouth Gardens from the Square to Coy Pond Gardens, including a crossing over Branksome Wood Road.
A council report said Yarmouth Road has become busy and noisy, while the scheme will create a quieter alternative along Sheringham Road with better crossings, pavements, traffic calming and signs.
The traffic order consultation received 54 responses, including 30 objections and 21 in support, while people in the BH12 postcode area were more likely to back the lower limit than oppose it.
Councillor Millie Earl told cabinet: “I really welcome this,” and said slower traffic on Bourne Valley Road could help vehicles pass more easily, before cabinet members approved the plan unanimously yesterday.
