Miriam Margolyes is joining Poole’s Christmas pantomime with a recorded role as Giant Blunderbore at Lighthouse.
The actor, who played Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter film series, will make her pantomime debut in Jack and the Beanstalk, which runs from Thursday 10 December into early January.
Her performance as the friendly, cheese eating Giant Blunderbore has been recorded in advance, so she will not appear in person, but her voice will be heard alongside Chris Jarvis as Dame Trott and Sarah Louise Young as Fleshcreep.
Speaking about her link with pantomime, Margolyes said, “I love panto”, and said it was her “first experience of theatre”, which sparked her interest, adding that it is “very important” for children to see shows.
She has donated her fee to the Lighthouse Christmas Appeal, which Lighthouse says will help more children attend this year, and the production will also feature Bernadette Bangura as Fairy Sunshine.
The Poole production is written and directed by Chris Jarvis, with choreography by Daniel Donaldson Todd, production design by James Smith and musical direction by Adam Tuffrey for Lighthouse audiences.
