Dorset Police said today that it received a report last month, after the body of a man was found in the Sandbanks Quay area, before being recovered by the coastguard and the force’s marine unit.
Detectives carried out further enquiries and also used a public appeal to establish who the man was, before confirming that he was in his 50s and from Poole following the discovery in the water off Poole earlier.
The man’s next of kin has been informed, and Dorset Police said officers are now continuing to liaise with the coroner as part of the process that follows the identification of his body.
Police said the death is not believed to be suspicious, and the force thanked people who helped by sharing the earlier appeal with the words, “We would like to thank everyone.”
