An organ recital will bring London musician James Gough to Bournemouth town centre this Saturday.
Gough will perform works by Busser, Franck, Venables and Guilmant at St Stephen’s Church on 5 September, joining a monthly recital programme overseen by the Bournemouth church’s director of music, Nigel Groome.
Now director of music at St John the Evangelist in Upper Norwood, Gough previously worked at Southwark Cathedral and has given recitals at venues including St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Bath Abbey.
His current London church also has an architectural connection with St Stephen’s, as both were designed by Victorian architect John Loughborough Pearson, whose other work includes Truro Cathedral in Cornwall.
Welcoming listeners with different levels of musical knowledge, Groome said: “All are welcome at our recitals, whether you're already clued up about organ music or just want to enjoy some fine music-making in a beautiful setting.”
No booking is needed for the recital at the church in St Stephen’s Way, with further performances in the programme scheduled for the first Saturdays of October, November and December.
