Songwriter Ian W Brown will bring stories from music and film to Lighthouse Poole next April.
During An Evening of Stories and Songs at The Sherling Studio on Thursday 22 April, Brown will share experiences from his varied career as a songwriter, scriptwriter, record label owner, manager, producer, agent and music plugger.
Brown co-wrote Sandi Thom’s chart-topping single I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker, which earned him an Ivor Novello nomination, alongside the lead song from the West End musical Dreamboats and Petticoats.
More than 30 of his songs have appeared in films, including Mother’s Pride, Blithe Spirit, Wild Rose and both Fisherman’s Friends films, while his work has also been recorded by performers including The Fisherman’s Friends.
Brown began as a full-time pig farmer and part-time songwriter after a careers officer asked what a songwriter without a girlfriend should be called, before supplying the answer: “Homeless.”
The Poole performance will feature successful songs and lesser-known work alongside the stories behind them, while Brown’s memoir, A Pig Farmer’s Guide to Rock ‘n’ Roll, is due to be published in early 2027.
