New equipment has been installed through BCP Council’s Plan for Play strategy, with swings, slides, climbing equipment and a zip wire added, and the design puts more focus on adventurous play for different ages alongside quieter areas.
The scheme was funded through developer contributions from the Community Infrastructure Levy, and local children, young people and residents helped shape a layout with a nature theme that balances challenge with access for more users.
At the centre of the play area is a large play unit with ramped access, alongside a wide slide, carousel, a roundabout that wheelchair users can access and an inclusive see saw.
Councillor Andy Hadley, BCP Council’s portfolio holder for parks, said the council had made improvements at Kings Park a “key priority” and was pleased to see the work now complete.
Councillor Sandra Moore, the council’s portfolio holder for play strategy, said play is vital for children’s health, wellbeing and development, and said the community would benefit “for many years to come”.
