Plans for the former Adventure Wonderland site in Hurn are being recommended for refusal.
The mixed use application would turn the closed Merritown Lane attraction into a leisure, tourism and education venue, with an indoor children’s play centre called Discovery Village and The Treehouse, which would be run by Dorset disability charity Diverse Abilities.
The plans also include 107 commercial airport car parking spaces. BCP Council planning officers say the scheme has not shown how it would deliver the required 10 per cent biodiversity net gain.
The application was deferred in June so officers could review new information on highway safety and ecology. Highways officers have since accepted measures including a three metre toucan crossing, new footways and relocated bus stops.
Bournemouth International Airport still objects to the car park, calling it inappropriate development in the Green Belt and warning that customers could walk along busy unlit roads.
More than 55 letters of support have been sent by families and visitors, with supporters describing The Treehouse as “a vital, safe haven” for people with special educational needs and disabilities.
Hurn Parish Council supports regeneration of the derelict site, but wants strict conditions on commercial airport parking. BCP Council’s planning committee is due to debate the application on Tuesday.
