The decision covers most of the council-owned Hicks Farm buildings complex on Throop Road, including the farmhouse and outbuildings, after members heard the council faces an active tenant disrepair claim linked to the site.

Councillor Mike Cox said the council was “unable to fund the necessary repairs” needed to bring the site back to use, after the outbuildings were described as being in severe disrepair.

The council had previously looked at lottery funding to restore the historic buildings as a heritage and visitor attraction, but Councillor Andy Hadley said “we really can’t afford to do some of this stuff”.

The site has not been used for agriculture since 2014, and a wooden barn there was destroyed in a fire in 2024. The disposal was approved by 32 votes to two, with four abstentions.
