A Greggs bakery could open at Fairmile Service Station in Christchurch under plans being considered.

Motor Fuel Group Limited wants to enlarge the existing forecourt shop on Fairmile Road, creating space for the proposed food outlet within a new single storey extension.

The wider development would involve demolishing an outbuilding and the current car wash, installing replacement jet washes and making changes to the parking arrangements around the service station.

Planning documents describe Greggs as a “food to go concession” offering bread, savoury pastries, cakes and sandwiches, alongside soups, salads, pasta, snacks, hot wraps and a selection of hot and cold drinks.

A small indoor area containing 4 seats would allow customers to eat inside, with the applicant saying the addition would “enhance the customer experience” at the petrol station.

The proposal is expected to create 10 jobs if permission is granted, including 2 full time and 8 part time roles at the Fairmile Road site.

The application remains under consideration until 22 September and can be viewed using planning reference P/26/04079/FUL.
