The government plans to lift time limits on disabled concessionary bus passes from April 1, 2027, giving holders free travel at any time of day on local bus services once the change begins.

BCP Council has welcomed the announcement, saying the change should improve access to work, education and training for disabled residents across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, and help make daily journeys easier to plan.

Councillor Andy Hadley, portfolio holder for climate response, environment and energy, said buses help keep communities connected, and the council is working to make journeys “simpler, more convenient, and more reliable”.

He said the council had already started a trial with Morebus for holders of a Connect bus pass for disabled people, and welcomed the further step using government funding locally.

Councillor Hadley said BCP Council wants to support these journeys and work with partners to deliver the initiative across the whole BCP Council area when the national change comes in.
