Work to improve Victoria Road in Ferndown town centre will begin on Monday 7 September.
The 10 week scheme follows consultation with residents and businesses, and will add kerbside planting beds, 9 large planters, extra seating, benches, cycle stands, litter bins and heritage style bollards along the road.
Dorset Council says the design is intended to create an avenue effect, improve the street scene and discourage parking on footways, while giving people more places to sit and meet.
Councillor Jon Andrews said Victoria Road is an "important part of Ferndown town centre" and that the works aim to support local trade by improving the area's look and feel.
During construction, Victoria Road will stay open and pedestrian access to every business will be maintained, with the council saying it will try to "minimise the impact" on businesses, residents, customers and visitors.
Parking proposals include a loading bay near the Post Office, changes to loading restrictions, up to 8 marked spaces in Princes Road and a 1 hour allowance for Blue Badge holders, but the measures need consultation before confirmation.
