A boundary wall and fence proposal for a Bournemouth bungalow has been refused by planners.

The application related to 18 Rolls Drive, a detached bungalow on the corner of Rolls Drive and Selfridge Avenue, where the hedge would have been removed and replaced by a 900mm wall topped with a 900mm fence and pillars.

BCP Council said the property's corner position meant the proposed boundary would have a significant effect on the street scene, which is mainly made up of single-storey homes with low boundaries or open frontages.

Although the existing hedge is a similar height, officers said planting gives a softer appearance, while the proposed materials and height would create a permanent frontage that was visually intrusive.

The refusal notice said the design would disrupt the open appearance of the road, restrict views of the home and create an overly dominant and “fortress-like” frontage for the Bournemouth site as a whole.
