The proposal for the council run centre in Christchurch will go before a planning committee on August 20, after officers recommended the application for approval and a previous boundary issue was corrected.

At present, exercise classes are held in squash courts and the sports hall, because Two Riversmeet does not have a dedicated studio for those sessions within the existing building at the site.

BCP Council operates 5 leisure centres overall, with Two Riversmeet the only one it runs in Christchurch, and the site already includes 2 swimming pools, a fitness suite, 3G football pitches, squash courts and an indoor cycling studio.

Only 1 consultation comment was received, pointing out that a small area of land outside council ownership had been included in the site boundary by mistake before the plans were amended.

The council says the matter has been rectified, and no further comments were submitted before the application was referred to committee by Councillor Patrick Canavan because the leisure centre is owned by the authority.
