Stabilisation work at Bournemouth’s East Cliff is expected to begin this winter after planning approval.
BCP Council has approval to reprofile the cliff crest, remove the unsafe overhang, demolish derelict structures and tracks, and put safety fencing in place above the Undercliff promenade in Bournemouth.
The area has been shut since a landslip in 2016 damaged the track bed of the historic East Cliff Lift and led to the removal of its funicular carriages from the site.
The coastal project has previously been described as being supported by a government grant, with the aim of stabilising the cliff face and allowing the promenade below to reopen safely.
Construction is expected to use two temporary work compounds, with one on East Overcliff Drive at the cliff top and another on the Undercliff promenade while the works are carried out.
The council says it is finalising the delivery plan and “hopes to start work this winter”, 10 years after the landslide affected this part of Bournemouth’s seafront near East Cliff.
