The action plan, which is due to be considered by Cabinet on 28 October 2026, sets out steps for prevention and early intervention across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole alongside partners across Dorset.
It includes training for BCP Council staff so they can recognise warning signs, have sensitive conversations and connect people with suitable support before problems reach a crisis point as part of their work.
Councillor Brown, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said “behind every statistic is a person”, and the plan was about “turning concern into practical action” for local communities and services.
She said no single organisation could tackle suicide prevention alone, and the council wants to work with health, education, voluntary and community groups to build a stronger support network locally.
If the plan is approved, progress would be overseen by a proposed Suicide Prevention Delivery Group, with actions also covering clearer access to help and support for people affected by suicide.
Anyone who is struggling can contact Samaritans for support through its website, while Dorset Open Door supports people who have been bereaved or affected by traumatic or sudden loss locally.
