A 20-year-old motorist has been jailed after a collision on the Upton Bypass near Poole.
Archie Glen McCann, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 23 October after admitting causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Police said McCann was driving a blue Volkswagen Polo dangerously at around 10.35am on Sunday 29 March, apparently racing other vehicles, before a man in his 40s helped bring traffic to a stop.
When the man approached McCann’s car, McCann reversed into another vehicle before driving off and colliding with him. The Polo was later seen travelling the wrong way down a slip road.
The victim sustained a fractured skull, a bleed to his brain and a broken leg. He has also been left permanently deaf in his left ear.
Officers identified McCann as the driver and said he had left the county for Scotland. He was arrested on Thursday 16 July, then charged and brought before the courts.
McCann was jailed for three years and banned from driving for six years. Detective Constable Molly James said his “extremely reckless actions” had left the victim with lifelong injuries.
