Earlier support and new accommodation will help tackle homelessness and rough sleeping across Dorset Council’s area.
Government funding secured by the council will support improvements to prevention services, help people access safe accommodation sooner and deliver new accommodation for those who have spent a long time sleeping rough.
Voluntary and community organisations, housing providers, health partners and support agencies will work alongside the council, which is using data to identify households at risk and offer help tailored to their circumstances before problems become a crisis.
Councillor Gill Taylor, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said: “Everyone has a right to a home, and nobody should have to sleep rough.”
She said daily work with voluntary organisations was central to preventing homelessness, with support intended to give people the skills and opportunities to manage their current circumstances and build “stable, independent futures”.
The council says its homelessness prevention performance continues to exceed the national average, with the additional funding intended to strengthen joint working between services and improve support for people across its area.
