Thousands of pupils in Dorset will have new opportunities to experience live orchestral music this year.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is bringing a programme of activities to local schools and venues, including a concert for GCSE and BTEC pupils in Poole on 9 November and an open rehearsal for younger secondary pupils in Bournemouth on 15 April 2027.

Primary school children will be invited to Explore the Orchestra: Dance, Dance, Dance at Lighthouse, Poole, on 18 and 19 May 2027, with classroom resources and teacher training helping schools prepare for their visits.

Young musicians can also play alongside professionals at Symphony from Scratch, an inclusive weekend at Lighthouse on 30 and 31 January 2027, involving players from the National Open Youth Orchestra, BSO Resound and local amateur musicians.

Lucy Warren, Head of BSO Participate, said children and young people are "absolutely central" to its work, with the programme supporting pupils studying for qualifications as well as those hearing a full orchestra for the first time.

Last year, the orchestra recorded 31,855 participations by children and young people across 200 events in 62 locations, with details and bookings for the new programme available at bsolive.com.
